A digital signature certificate is a way of proving that a document is genuine and has not been tampered with since it was signed. It works by generating an encrypted hash of the document at the exact moment of signing, which is unique to the document’s content. If even a single character changes afterward, the hash no longer matches, and the signature is flagged as invalid.

This provides organizations with something like a notary stamp: verifiable proof that the document remains intact. The signer’s identity is confirmed through their public key, sensitive content stays protected, and the record is tamper-evident from the moment it is created. There are three types of digital signatures.

• Advanced e-signatures step it up by tying the signature to a verifiable identity. There is a traceable link between the signature and the person who applied it, which matters when the document needs to hold up under review.
• Qualified e-signatures are backed by digital document signing certificates issued through trusted providers, and they carry full legal standing under frameworks like the ESIGN Act, UETA, and the EU’s eIDAS regulation. In regulated industries, this is often the only tier that satisfies compliance requirements.

The platform is specifically optimized for both workstation and mobile environments. Signing on an Apple iPad works the same way as signing on a Windows workstation does. Contracts do not always need to be signed at a desk.
